Luau at Emmaus Homes a Success |
|
On February 12, Emmaus Homes hosted its 22nd Annual Open Your
Heart Dinner at the St. Charles Convention Center. Emmaus
provides residential services to 250 adults with developmental
disabilities in 40 homes throughout St. Charles and Warren
Counties, as well as St. Louis City and County. The Open Your
Heart Dinner is its premier fundraising event, this year hosting
more nearly 400 guests and raising over $75,000 to support
Emmaus’ services.
This year’s Open Your Heart Dinner, the Hau’ Oli Luau (Happy
Feast), included silent and oral auctions, several raffles,
authentic Hawaiian dancers and music by Galaxy Band. Dr. Charles
Sincox, who served for 30 years as Emmaus’ Medical Director at
its Marthasville campus, was honored for his service, as were
Emmaus’ employees of the year and employees with 25 or more
years of service.

In 2009, the Conference
established a partnership with the Bokungu District of the
Christian Disciples of Christ in Congo.
In February, our Conference Minister Rev. Jeffrey Whitman will

The trip is led by Rev. Sandra Gourdet, Area Executive for
Africa with Wider Church Ministries. During the two week trip,
the delegation will visit with ecumenical partners in both the
Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo,
including representatives of the Church of Christ in the Congo;
the National Women’s Department of the CCC; leaders of the
Community of Disciples of Christ Church; and members of the
Church of the Disciples of Christ in Congo.
