October 17, 18 & 19, 2008
FAITHWORKS 2008! The
Missouri Mid-South Conference family gathered at Tan-Tar-A Resort
October 17-19 for a weekend of worship, fellowship, spiritual renewal,
workshops and presentations around the theme, “Creating and
Celebrating Healthy and Vital Churches.”

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Tex Sample, lead
the opening worship on Friday, then offered his thoughts on “The
Practice of Transformation in Revitalization of Churches.”
Sample’s other keynote presentations were: “Getting the Story Right
– God’s Story in the Healthy, Whole Church” (Friday evening) and
“Craft of Discipleship – Crafted For Mission” (Saturday
afternoon). Tex is an engaging speaker and prolific writer. He
enlivened, entertained, educated, inspired and challenged listeners.

Workshops also engaged the theme; topics
included “Worship in Vital Churches,” “Ready, Set, Grow,”
“Congregational Transformation,” “Stewardship Best Practices,”
“Jamaican Partnerships and Vital Mission,” “Parish Nurse,” “Safe
Church,” “Why Every Church Should Have a Pastoral Relations
Committee,” and “Dealing with Conflict.”
Returning this year was the Saturday morning “Missions Fair.” This
popular event included displays and exhibits by UCC Agencies and
other church related groups, local church stories of vital mission,
and health-screening opportunities. A continental breakfast was
provided through a generous grant by The Deaconess Foundation.
Bible study, faith-sharing luncheons, worship, and fellowship were all part of FAITHWORKS 2008.
