A Mission Statement for the Youth and Young Adult Ministries
Working Group (YAYA) of the Missouri Mid-South Conference
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
“I planted, Apollo watered, but God gave the growth.” (I
Corinthians 3:6)
|
|
| |
The Youth and Young Adult Ministries Working Group
of the Missouri Mid-South Conference, United Church of Christ,
perceives its ministerial role within the conference as one not unlike
the image of the gardener provided us time and again in scripture and
here by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians. While only
God can give the growth, we must plant seeds we believe hold the
potential to root themselves in the Spirit and produce Spirit-directed
opportunities for youth and young adult ministries. We must water the
garden and provide opportunities for nourishment. We must tend to the
garden as a whole while helping to care for individual plants at the
local church level. And we must constantly prune and weed in the
garden, that good seeds and hearty plants might have the space and
attention to reach their full potential for the glory of God.
As partners and leaders in service to God within the Missouri
Mid-South Conference of the United Church of Christ, faithfully
seeking the growth God can provide to youth and young adult ministries
at the local church, association and conference level, the Youth and
Young Adult Ministries Working Group (YAYA) accepts as its mission the
following:
|
|
| |
| |
S
Strengthen youth and young adult ministry
We will strengthen youth and young adult
ministry by promoting the following things for youth and young
adults: 1) spiritual growth, leadership skills, a sense of
belonging in the United Church of Christ and furthering the realm
of God through service and outreach;2) affirming the unique gifts
and talents of youth and young adults; and 3) creating “safe
places” where youth can explore and further their faith journeys.
|
| |
E Ensure
fair and adequate representation
We will work to ensure fair and adequate
representation by youth and young adults on boards, councils and
committees throughout the life of the United Church of Christ, the
ministries and programs of Missouri Mid-South Conference and local
churches.
|
| |
E
Evangelism
We will reach out to youth beyond the church,
inviting all and ministering with all, to further the spiritual
growth of the community of faith through evangelism
|
| |
D
Diversity
We will affirm the diversity within the United
Church of Christ and Missouri Mid-South Conference by supporting
and seeking involvement of all youth and acknowledging that
differences are assets to ministry.
|
| |
S
Support Network
We will support and nurture adult leaders in
youth ministry by developing and sustaining a support network
among those who serve the youth and young adults of the Missouri
Mid-South Conference.
